The space today is characterized by its connection points, the 'in-between' spaces. Three central principles guided the planning: between the nature and the city, between the water and the ground, and between the winter and the summer. Thus, every aspect of the design functions as a connection point between different areas.
The project's goal is to create a symbiosis between all the users of the space: people, animals, plants, and fungi. Interactions between edges will give opportunities for exciting encounters.
The strategy is to locate a variety of interventions in different scales and forms, using local and sustainable materials. The diverse space today was an excellent starting point and led to planning that enables unique encounters between living creatures and the environment. The planning proposes to use the advantages of the place, such as diverse landscapes and culture, and add to the existing natural infrastructure. This will contribute to its biodiversity and ecological balance. All of this is according to the principles of "protected but accessible" through different planning layers. These layers fit into each other and together create a rich fabric of life.
The 'In-Between' spaces will make Lignano Sabbiadoro an area full of different kinds of life throughout the year. The design responds to all the creatures that use it and knows how to adapt itself to them. It works in between different worlds and create new connections. These connections know how to expand and continue to exist even when the interactions change, along with the environment and the seasons.
